It’s difficult not being able to go about your usual routine, go to work every morning or even be in physical contact with your loved ones.
We resonate with this quote from J. Sidlow Baxter, “What is the difference between an obstacle and an opportunity? Our attitude toward it. Every opportunity has a difficulty, and every difficulty has an opportunity.” As the world is on lockdown and battling COVID-19, you could use this as an opportunity to learn or try something new (still maintaining social distancing of course). A positive attitude can recreate your reality!
Here’s a list of things you can do while on lockdown:
1. TAKE FREE ONLINE COURSES
It’s easier now more than ever to further your education and career skills with the millions of courses and resources online, available on platforms such as EdX, Udemy, Coursera, and more.
If you are stuck at home, now is the time to start and complete a course. Even better, you can sign up for free online courses from the world’s top colleges!
2. ATTEND VIRTUAL EVENTS
During the quarantine, events that wouldn’t normally be available online are now being offered virtually.
You can travel the world (virtually) and experience different cultures, visit museums and much more from the comfort of your couch. One of such is this virtual tour of Ancient Rome or you can check out Google’s Art & Culture collection from all over the world.
3. EXERCISE OR TRY A FITNESS CHALLENGE
It’s not just for those who miss the gym, being that you’re more stationary than usual, exercise is a must! There are plenty of fitness challenges you can try out from home without any equipment, so you can emerge from lockdown strong and fit.
Staying active will make a big difference in how you feel during the lockdown, exercising should help you sleep better and put you in a better mood overall.
Some great apps you can use include Down Dog, Nike Training Club, or try this 30 Day Yoga Challenge.
4. LEARN A LANGUAGE
Always wanted to speak Spanish? Or started learning French and didn’t get too far? Well, now’s the perfect time to learn a new language or brush up on previous lessons.
You can use Duolingo; perhaps the most well-known free language learning app available.
And finally…
5. KEEP IN TOUCH WITH YOUR LOVED ONES
The lockdown may turn you into a couch potato and have you spend all your time watching movies and shows if you’re not careful. Try to make sure you reach out to the people you care about as often as possible. Have that friend you haven’t spoken to in months? Call them! With apps like Zoom, Skype, Whatsapp and more, you can have video and group calls with your friends and family.
That’s it! These 5 things should keep you busy for the next week or so. Remember, we are all in this together. Stay safe!
