In honor of International women’s month, we selected a few of our female customers to talk about the journey of their business and how QuickCheck has helped them stand and keep their businesses running.
This week, we spoke to Grace Osunfiyi who is in the kulikuli and perfume business, an entrepreneur who had the desire to start up a side hustle.
Tell us about your name and a little about yourself.
My name is Grace Osunfuyi. I am into the perfume and kulikuli business.
What made you want to start a business in that specific industry?
The business was born out of the desire to have a side hustle & additional income as my current job was not enough to foot my bills.
What is a major setback/obstacle you had to overcome while running your business?
Well, the major obstacle was being able to convince people to patronize me especially in the kulikuli business but with the marketing spirit in me I was able to overcome and I am still currently making sales from it.
How hard was it to secure funding for your business as a female entrepreneur in Nigeria and how has QuickCheck helped you grow/scale your business?
The challenge I had was getting funds for the business as the demands kept increasing and when you ask people to give you a loan to support your business the first thing they will tell you is “Don’t you have a husband”? So it was really difficult to get funds for the business until I came across the QuickCheck loan app. At first I was skeptical about it because of past experiences but I must admit that I was wowed at the service and professionalism. I have been a beneficiary of this loan app for a long time now and it has helped my business because I make like three times the profit of the interest I pay monthly.
What advice can you give to female entrepreneurs out there looking to start and grow their business?
I will advise my fellow women that they should not give up on any business they desire to do, have a positive mindset towards the business and don’t allow anyone or situation to talk you down. Apply for a loan especially when you know that you can make more profit than the interest attached, love what you are doing first and be professional and passionate about it. You will fly.
